from: Kyle BesserThere are many reasons why people decide to teach business classes. Since business is constantly changing, being able to teach the latest technological methods and business theories is very interesting and exciting. There are those who have worked in the business world and switched careers to teaching because they are looking for a change but still want to be involved in the business world. Others simply enjoy teaching and are interested in the concepts of business.
The main skills taught in business education programs include:
communications
information systems/technology
financial procedures
economics
entrepreneurship
international business
principles of management and law
interpersonal and leadership skills
career development
When looking for business teaching jobs, a good place to start is the job listings at the college you graduated from. Your college may also have job placement assistance that you can use when looking for business education teaching jobs. Some schools advertise positions they have available in newspapers or online. You can also call schools that you are interested in and see if they have any positions open.
The best time to look for business education teaching jobs is during the spring. Before the fall semester, schools like to have positions filled so that they can offer more classes to students and be able to offer specialized classes. If you are interested in teaching on the college level, most colleges usually conduct interviewing after spring break but before the end of the semester. This way they will have a few months to make up their minds before the fall semester begins. This means you should put your application after the spring semester begins so that you can be at the top of the list.
When interviewing for business education teaching jobs, you should take along projects that you worked on in college or in the business world. You should also be prepared to talk about your teaching experiences.
If you cannot find a full-time teaching position in an area you want to live, you can always try for a part-time teaching position. These can be very beneficial especially if you are building a teaching portfolio.
