Music Education
from: Kyle BesserMusic education classes can enrich a child's life in many ways. Children who learn to play a musical instrument, sing, or learn to compose music usually perform better in their other subjects and on test scoresl, have a better awareness of who they are and are better analytical thinkers and problem solvers.
For those who have music education classes in school, learning to play an instrument and playing in a band can be lots of fun and exciting. Children as young as eight or nine can be taught how to play a variety of instruments. Children who participate in a choir or chorus will also benefit from music. Bands and singing groups will have concerts where the children will be able to play and sing for parents, friends and others in the school. They will gain a sense of pride for what they have accomplished and feel what it is like being part of a group.
Learning how music is created will help children improve their math skills. Learning about the value of notes, time signatures and exits and entrances will help them learn how to be a member of a team. Music education can help children build social skills and build friendships. Being part of a band or choir gives children activities to participate in during and after school and keeps them out of the trouble that boredom bring.
Being exposed to many different types of music helps children learn about and understand other cultures and lifestyles. Unfortunately, many schools have abandoned music education programs due to lack of funds in their budget.
If there is no music education program offered at school, children can take private lessons. These can be beneficial but in a different way. Instead of being part of a band, music students will have learn to rely on themselves when playing their instruments. Piano lessons and guitar lessons are very popular because these are instruments that can be played alone or with a group. Finding a band or local group to play with is a good idea for those who decide they want to perform in front of others.
Children who take music lessons will learn other important skills that they will find useful as they enter adulthood.
